And no place for the homeless to go has been found starting on Saturday. With the snow coming today, and all the rain last night, could you imagine being outside through all of this? Anyways, here’s the details.
Madison Public Library’s Central Library To Close Friday, November 11
Stop by the Children’s Room all day long on Friday, November 11 for snacks and a scavenger hunt, or share your favorite memories and photos of the Central Library with us on our web site, on our Facebook page, or on our Madison Public Library in Photos Flickr group.
Central customers are encouraged to contact library staff before November 11 for assistance in transferring their holds to another location during the closure or inactivating their holds until the Central Library opens at 126 S. Hamilton St. All items still on the hold shelf at the Central Library on November 12 will be transferred to the Hawthorne Branch Library at 2707 E. Washington Ave. Items checked out at the Central Library will not be due while the library is closed. The book drop at 201 W Mifflin St will remain open until early December and items may be returned at any other Madison Public Library location.
Central Library phone service may be unavailable for a few days after the library closes on November 11. We are expecting to move staff, collections and services to our interim locations within a few days, and the Central Library on South Hamilton Street will open in early December after renovations are complete. [more info about interim location collections & services]
The Central Library will reopen at an interim location at 126 S. Hamilton St. [map | pictures] in early December and will remain there until the new Central Library is completed in 2013. The Central Library at 126 S. Hamilton St. will be open Mondays-Thursdays 9 am – 9 pm, Fridays 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 5 pm and will have the same main phone number, 608-266-6300.
The interim Central Library at 126 S. Hamilton will have a smaller service area and a smaller collection focusing on popular and new books, DVDs, CDs, books on CD, rotating display collections, and a small children’s book collection. There will be 22 internet access computers available to the public. The majority of the Central Library’s collection will be moved to off-site storage on the east side of the city, but the collection will be available to the public after the move through online reservation by LINKcat and delivery to any public library in the South Central Library System. Some library services housed at the Central Library may also be temporarily suspended during the move.
Construction of the new Central Library is expected to begin in February 2012, with the new Central Library expected to open in the summer of 2013.
