City, Including Libraries Closed W & Th

City, including the libraries (formerly serving as warming shelters) are closed Wednesday and Thursday. Check mymetrobus.com for bus schedules.

Mayor Paul Soglin and City staff have determined that, due to extremely hazardous weather conditions, the City is taking extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of our employees, residents, and guests the next two days. All non-essential City services will be shut down and closed to the public Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31.

Madison Metro Transit will be in service with some limitations. Please check mymetrobus.com to determine which routes are in operation. Police and Fire will be working, as will Public Works employees as they keep streets, sidewalks and bike paths cleared and provide residents with safe drinking water. Staff throughout the City will be monitoring phones and returning calls as needed.

Stay warm!

All Madison Public Library locations will be closed on Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31 due to extreme weather conditions. All library events and all community events held in Madison Public Libraries will be canceled both closed days.

In addition, the Monroe Street Library will close early on Tuesday, January 29 at 5pm. All other libraries are expected to remain open until regular closing times on Tuesday, and library officials expect to resume regular hours on Friday, February 1.

Library customers may use the library remotely by using LINKcat to place holds, check library card records, or renew items. Library items may also be renewed by calling Telecirc (608-242-4700) or any open library. The library’s databases and downloadable audiobooks and eBooks are also accessible 24/7 with a library card.

As always, during City of Madison declared snow emergencies or days of extreme temperatures this season, please call the library you plan to visit in advance, as updates may occur throughout the week or programs may be cancelled even if libraries are open.
