Several agencies are making special accommodations to help our neighbors in need during this period of extreme cold. Below is a summary of those efforts. Please feel free to pass this information on to any staff or people who you work with who may find this helpful.
1. The Beacon will open at 7:30am during cold weather to limit the amount of time guests are exposed to the cold in the morning.
(The Beacon closes daily at 5pm.)2. On Friday, 1/25, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, First United Methodist Church is serving as a warming space for families and single women only. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack will be served. (FUMC does not provide access to showers or laundry.)
3. Porchlight begins intake for the men’s shelter at 5:30pm on weekdays. **Beginning on Saturday, January 26th, The men’s shelter will begin intake at 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays until March 31st to limit exposure to the cold. (On the weekends, the Central Library closes at 5pm and the State Capitol closes at 4pm.)
4. The Salvation Army begins intake for women and families at 4pm. **Intake will begin at 3pm on Friday 1/25 in partnership with the FUMC warming space.
5. On Friday, 1/25 The Beacon will assist with shuttle rides from Salvation Army to FUMC for women and families in the morning when the Salvation Army closes, and the afternoon before shelter intake begins.

The Beacon will continue opening early as needed due to the extreme cold weather. The doors will be opening between 7:15am – 7:30am this coming weekend.
