Men’s shelter:
You have probably noticed the extreme temperatures this coming week, specifically Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. I believe Bethel is extending their hours (opening early). The Men’s Drop In shelter will extend our hours until 9am both Tue and Wed. We will revisit the forecast for Thursday before making a decision. I will also do a guest survey Monday night to see how many guests would want van services in between shelters. Although last year when we did this, it was seldomly used (sometimes not at all) I will still find out if the guests would want this service. Please note this ‘between shelter’ van service should not be confused with the daily PL van service that runs daily, although it would be the PL van and staff performing both services. Hey All,
You will probably be getting this reminder on Monday through the HSC listserv, but I wanted to reach out to the other night shelter providers before Monday. We will be extending our hours this coming week because of the extreme weather that is expected. We will be open from 7am-5pm to close gaps. Please let you staff and clients know as soon as possible. Predicted cold weather nights for the week of 01/05/15 will be updated on Monday (01/05).
On nights of extreme weather or cold (i.e. 20°F or colder), all individuals in need of shelter are invited to stay in one of the Madison’s area shelters.
I’ve personally spent time this weekend trying to convince people banned for life that they can go to shelter when its this cold . . . its not easy, not easy at all.
