So, 7 open seats. 4 conservatives and 4 liberals ended up with challengers. I guess people are happy with the incumbents? Or, just have no idea what they do because it never gets reported on, I’m not sure which! I hope with this liberal board, its the former. All that squawking by AM talk radio hasn’t seemed to changed much.

  1. Wasn’t Hariah Hutkowski the woman who was investigated for voter fraud in 2010? Because she voted in La Crosse County while living in Dane?

  2. Here’s a quick rundown of the open seats:

District 3:  Hariah Hutkowski is a Republican staffer and Sun Prairie Alderman and former employee of Wisconsin Family Action.  Nick Zweifel is a math teacher at DeForest High School.  It doesn’t look like he has held office before but he did write a good letter to the Cap Times opposing Walker’s education cuts.

District 5:  Leland Pan and John Magnino are both liberals, as you might expect in this district (although it wouldn’t have been surprising for a College Republican to get in just for fun.)  Magnino is an intern coordinator for the College Democrats and Pan is active in the Student Labor Action Coalition as well as being an ASM representative.

District 22:  Terri Kelso is the president of an employment agency.  I can’t find much about her political views.  Maureen McCarville is on the village board in DeForest.  She has been endorsed by Falk, McDonell, Mark Miller, DeForest Area Progressives, etc.

District 25:  Tim Kiefer is a former assistant DA, ran for Assembly as a Democrat and has been endorsed by Falk, McDonell, and other Dane County Democratic establishment types.  Brian Raemisch is a financial advisor.  On his Facebook page he has tried to downplay his partisan affiliation, but has been endorsed by Chad Lee, Peter Theron, Keith Ripp, and Evan Wynn, among others, and certainly no Democrats that I can see.  Can’t tell if he is related to Rick Raemisch, but he doesn’t list Rick as an endorser.

District 31:  Jerry Bollig was on the Oregon village board and serves as an accountant for the Alliant Energy Center/Coliseum.  Roe Parker is a professional speaker and trainer on project management.  He also worked for the Wisconsin TEchnical College System as a Program Planning Administrator, and served on the Winnebago County Board at one point.  I can’t find much on the actual political views of either of them.

District 35:  Joshua Butler is a realtor and self proclaimed huge wrestling fan.  I can’t find anything about his positions on his Facebook or Twitter pages–it’s mostly about wrestling.  Carl Chenoweth has served on the Stoughton City Council and has also run for mayor. Denise Duranczyk endorsed him for mayor in 2010 and presumably would also endorse him to take her seat.  Finally, Paul Lawrence is also a Stoughton alderman and realtor.  He applied for the seat in 2009, when Duranczyk was appointed.  My guess is that he probably leans more conservative but I can’t tell for sure.

  3. I skipped District 2.

Brian Benford is a Progressive Dane member, former Madison alderman.  Adam Plotkin is the former president of Capitol Neighborhoods, used to work for Spencer Coggs and is the legislative liaison for the State Public Defender.  Heidi Wegleitner is an attorney for Legal Action of Wisconsin.  All three seem to be pretty progressive, which is why I forgot to do it initially–I knew there weren’t any strong conservatives to warn people about.
