Current Round Up

This one has items from the last 48 hours or so, sorry I missed quite a bit in the last week, will try to do better.

THIS IS SCARY
I’m glad I live in an old house, not a new one. What’s really scary is looking at what happens to vinyl siding in a fire. And is affordability really an issue when you’re talking about a $337K home that will cost $339 or $340K to have sprinklers? Seriously?

CHECK OUT THE SCHOOL BOARD BLOGGERS
Ed Hughes is the latest to jump into the fray.

MADISON AHEAD ON THE PHOSPHORUS BAN
Remember how absurd it was back when Greg Markle (before Larry Palm) was on the Common Council and those crazies in Madison banned sales of fertilizer with phosphorus . . . well, DNR is in on the act now, years later, but they took a little different approach.

We have an accreditation program where providers have to be worthy of accreditation, something very few others have. Well a state committee just passed a rating system for the rest of the state, Some Madison providers should be in great shape!

BETTER HURRY
Charter St. plant has small explosion, I guess the rebuild can’t come fast enough.

WHAT WILL THE R’s SAY ABOUT BARRETT NOW
Um, Milwaukee’s population increased?

THIS KIND OF STINKS
Yeah, it looks bad. I hate it when people do things this stupid and blatant and don’t even try to do it right. Makes it look bad and erodes the faith of people in government (and the UW). It he was qualified enough to get the job without the resume, why not back up and do the process right?

“PERMANENTLY”, YEAH RIGHT!
It’s just silly when people cut deals like this. At some point, I bet the deal is broken. You don’t think the neighbors will forget, do you? Oh, wait, I don’t think that anyone except this reporter mentioned “permanent”, cuz we all know there is no such thing in city hall.

DIGITALLY BACKWARDS
What do you expect when we have a digitally backwards mayor? It’s no secret, he likes his paper instead of the computer. The only interest he has in it is if it makes him look cool. Maybe he’ll come up with some ideas before the next election, if he has any competition. (It’s about time for candidates to start announcing if they are serious.)

SOMEONE COULD RUN FOR ALDER
They can do more than take pictures of the downed trees, someone could run against Mark Clear for supporting the loss of 400 trees on Old Middleton Rd. Sometimes, that is the only thing politicians seem to understand. As I mentioned above, elections are next spring. Another thought, tougher regulations on where the run-off is coming from, including construction sites. Oh, wait, that would be anti-business and not good for economic development and we all know that is all that matters.

LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE STATE
Are we lucky, or is it because of our great economic development strategy we have? I’m guessing it is more of the former than the latter.

STOUGHTON’S T
What’s up with the water tower mishaps? First the first, then the painting mistake. Who are they hiring to do this work?

OOOPS, HOW BAD CAN YOU SCREW UP
Go big! I guess.

THIS WAS POORLY WRITTEN

City staff had also expressed its concerns while backing the project, saying “the Planning Division does not typically support the demolition of buildings to create surface parking.”

But Olinger notes there will be even more visitors when the new library opens later this year. He says any future development would likely include some kind of structured parking which could replace the surface spaces.

. . . is the boss. Awkward.
