Here is a report from Steve Brist in the City Attorney’s office.
The recount has begun in Room 354, just below our office. It appears to be very well organized compared to ones I have seen in the past. If you would like to observe you need to sign in, wear a nametag and stay in a designated area. The three member Board of Canvassers for the County will be making the final decisions on challenges and questions. They are Joyce Waldorf, Republican Party representative; Gretchen Lowe, Democratic Party representative, and the new County Clerk, Karen Peters. There is one designated representative for each of the two candidates and they are the only ones who may make formal challenges. No cell phone calls are permitted in the room. There are 184,000 ballots from 158 polling places and they will all be counted by hand. They need to do about 15,000 ballots a day; they will work from 8 to 8 every day, including the weekends, to get done by the 9th. City of Madison ballots will be counted last and won’t start until about May 1 or 2.
