Dean Brasser Retiring

Sigh . . . this is a bummer. Knew about it last week, was hoping it wasn’t true . . .

I agree with the Mayor on this one, I’m concerned about who we get as a replacement. Maybe a woman? Or person of color? That would be a novel concept.

Subject: Thank you, Dean Brasser

Dear Colleagues,

I’m sad to announce that Dean Brasser will be retiring in July after 35 years with the City.

I haven’t lost a minute of sleep in my eight years in office worrying about the financial stability of Madison City government because I knew Dean was minding the City’s financial store. Dean deserves tremendous credit for the City’s retention of our Aaa bond rating at a time when communities near and far were losing theirs. He has that special combination of rock-solid integrity, impeccable financial judgment and steadiness of character that will be very difficult to replace. His institutional knowledge will frankly be irreplaceable.

We will begin a national search for his position after the holidays with the goal of filling the position by June.

Please join me in thanking him for his service and wishing him well as he contemplates his future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Dave
