Everyone’s favorite elevator . . . to be fixed . . .and cause some disruption.
MMB Employees, Department and Division Heads, Committee Staff:
I am confirming that the project for the MMB Elevator Modernization will begin on January 3rd 2011 and is scheduled to last eight weeks. The elevator will be back in service on Monday, February 28th 2011 at the very latest. Notification signs to the public have been place by all entry doors. All efforts will be made to accelerate this schedule where possible. Since the elevator will not be operational during this time period, accommodations must be made to the public and the building staff.
The Lower Level has already been made handicapped accessible through the door at the lower dock on the Wilson Street side of the building. However, it is not economically feasible to provide a back up elevator/lift for access to the 2nd and 3rd floors; other accommodations will need to be made.
Visitors
For visitors coming to the MMB who need to meet with staff on the 2nd or 3rd floor of MMB, a telephone will be available on the 1st floor at the front counter of Transportation Suite 100. A phone directory of personnel on the 2nd and 3rd floors will be provided. Signage will be displayed throughout the building letting people know that they can go to this suite and call the staff person they will be meeting with. A meeting room, equipped with a phone and computer will be provided in this suite.Again, there will be appropriate signage to inform the public of this procedure as well as directions to the lower level handicapped accessible entrance door.
Staff
Finally, accommodations may need to be made for building staff. At this time we are not aware of anyone who would require an accommodation. Please let us know as soon as possible if there are special needs so we can plan accordingly.City Committees/Commissions
During this time, the City will not be able to have any public meetings on the 2nd and 3rd floor of MMB, please plan accordingly. Thanks you for your cooperation with this critical repair work. This will ensure the reliable operation of the elevator for many years.
