Rebecca Kemble and Brenda Konkel preview the week of local government meetings ahead for October 14, 2024.
With city and county budget proposals public, and just a few weeks remaining until they’re finalized, leaders are digging in through more budget committee meetings this week.
On Monday and Tuesday, Madison’s Finance Committee will meet to deliberate on the operating budget. Konkel and Kemble discuss some of the cuts that would come if voters don’t approve the referendum on Election Day.
Those cuts are detailed starting on page 16 of the Full Executive Operating Budget. They’re mostly cuts to city staff — and as discussed previously on WORT, in eliminating funding for the Independent Monitor and Police Civilian Oversight Board.
On Tuesday, Dane County’s Personnel & Finance Committee will meet to consider amendments to the county’s nearly-billion dollar budget.
