Full Circle

One of my first posts on this site was in regards to a column written by Chris Rickert. In the column I referenced, he attacked a Madison Police Officer who had been put on leave for 18 months during an investigation. This was a police officer who had given 22 years to Madison where she had been written up ONE time. Rickert was in awe that she made a whopping $89,160 in 2009 much of that on leave during the investigation.

Fast forward a few months and we get this gem of a column today. Brian Deschane was recently promoted by the unscrupulous Walker administration to a managerial job making $81,500/yr. While Mr. Deschane’s main qualification was that his daddy was a major donor to Mr. Walker, his personal qualifications consisted no college degree and not understanding what the term “designated driver” means. Well Mr. Rickert seems to think everything is hunky dory with awarding donors(with taxpayer money).

Any 27-year-old who vaults to an $81,500-a-year state job despite having little experience, no college degree and two drunken driving convictions should not be a civil servant. (He should be a senator — ba-dum-bum!)

Seriously, though, I held off writing about Deschane because a) he’s way too easy of a target, and b) the facts of his case are comment enough.

But seeing his oversized mug shot on our editorial page Friday with the headline “Purge state of top-heavy waste” clinched it for me.

Here’s a 27-year-old guy essentially being publicly referred to as garbage. I know my mid-20s ego wouldn’t have been able to handle that without some serious emotional damage.

But there is further cause for sympathy in this public relations gift to the left. Allow me to defend the indefensible.

Deschane is guilty of little more than falling in with the wrong crowd — in this case, the elected officials, lobbysts, consultants and fundraisers who make up the vast apparati of our two major political parties.

More on the Deschane fiasco here.

One last thing, Rickert points out he was not going to write about this topic until he saw Deschane was the topic of an editorial recently. The State Journal editorials have spent the last two months bashing teachers and public workers who contribute greatly to society, and not a peep, yet bash a lazy kid who sponges off his parents and that is crossing the line! This will be my last post on Rickert, because it will be the last time I read his column.
