Given Joe Tarr quoted my comments about the historic context of the neighborhood surrounding the Lamp House, I thought I’d share the historic context of the approximately dozen city blocks between the Blair Street and the Capital on the North side of East Washington Ave. I did this research for the Old Market Place Neighborhood Association several years ago (late 90s or early 2000) and since then, the name of the neighborhood has changed to James Madison Park Neighborhood and several of the houses on this list have been demolished. I noted the ones I spotted. Anyways, for what it is worth, I looked all these houses up in the Wisconsin Architecture and History Inventory. These are the homes listed in that inventory and the names of most of them. I’m still working on updating this list and may have more information at a later date.
