How Long Would You Have to Wait to Get Into Public Housing?

The note with this notice says that the wait times are changed due to fewer vacancies (i.e. not good news):

Public Housing Wait Times
Effective 4/30/2010

Estimated wait times for Public Housing programs:
1-Bedroom Unit (Disabled Designations) = 3 – 6 Months
1-Bedroom Unit (Age 62 or older Designations) = 3 – 6 Months
1-Bedroom Unit (Age 50-61, no disability) = 6 – 12 Months
1-Bedroom Unit (No Designation) = 3+ Years
2-Bedroom Unit = 12+ Months
3-Bedroom Unit = 12+ Months
4-Bedroom Unit = 3+Years
5-Bedroom Unit = 3+ Years

Parkside Apartments and Townhouses
(Parkside Apartments gives preference to those who are Elderly* or Disabled)
Estimated wait times:
1-Bedroom Unit (Disabled or Elderly* Designations) = 3-6 Months
1-Bedroom Unit (No Designation) = 12+ Months
2-Bedroom Unit = 12+ Months
3-Bedroom Unit = 12+ Months
*Elderly = age 62+

Karabis Apartments
(Karabis Apartments gives preference to those who are Physically Disabled)
Estimated wait times:

2-Bedroom Barrier-free Unit (Physically Disabled Designation) = 3-6 Months
3-Bedroom Barrier-free Unit (Physically Disabled Designation) = 12+ Months

The above wait times are most accurate if city preference has been verified. Wait times are driven by vacancies and are estimated based on previous vacancy rates.

This is our safety net. The other option is section 8 and that list has been nearly always closed for the last 10 years or so.
