How Will the New Zoning Code Affect Where You Live?

Check out the maps to find out . . . then attend a meeting to give your feedback.

The downtown zoning districts WILL NOT be discussed at the fall open houses. View how this affects parts of Aldermanic Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8, here. The draft Zoning Map for the areas shaded in gray will be presented at a future open house that will be held after the land use and building height recommendations in the ongoing Downtown Plan are finalized.

On March 29, 2011, the City of Madison adopted a new Zoning Code. The new Code replaces the existing
Zoning Code which was last adopted in a comprehensive manner in the 1960’s. The new Zoning Code will take effect when a new Zoning Map is adopted by the Common Council. The City is preparing a draft Zoning Map which assigns new zoning districts to all properties within the City of Madison. The draft map will be presented for initial public review and comment at a series of open houses in September and October 2011.

You are invited to attend and provide initial feedback on the draft map at one or more public open houses, which will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at locations across the city based on groupings of aldermanic districts (see map and details below). Alders will attend, and City Planning and Zoning Staff will be there to answer questions and collect comments. Your feedback is important, and will help the City prepare a revised draft of the Zoning Map in the months ahead.
