I saw it posted on a few different blogs, people asking the author (how can I make a difference?). h/t Jessica Ace and Ever Onward. I sat down and started writing and this is the list I came up with(some is localized). It was too controversial for this blog, as it was removed almost as soon as I posted it. So I thought I would bring the controversy here! Any other suggestions, criticisms, comments?
HERE IS MY LIST:
* Give time/money to recall efforts!
* Give time/money to the Wisconsin Supreme Court Race. David Prosser clearly stands with Scott Walker. While JoAnne Kloppenburg clearly does not.
* Write a Letter to the Editor of the paper(s) you read.
* It never hurts to give a quick call to your legislator(s) and let them know where you stand.
Mark Miller – (608)266-9170
Gary Hebl – (608)266-7678
Joe Parisi – (608) 266-5342
Scott Walker – (608) 266-1212 (if they are open for business they should be open for phone calls)
* Pay attention and VOTE in the April Elections. In the Dane County Executive race, Eileen Bruskewitz clearly stands with scott walker,
Joe Parisi clearly does not.
* TALK to your friends/family/neighbors about it. Don’t be shy.
* Talk to your local elected officials about it. In Cottage Grove, we have two power players in this debate on the ballot. Mike Mikalsen, is a top aide for republican (and “budget repair” bill supporter) Steve Nass, and Paula Severson who is a Registered Lobbyist(whose goal is abolishing unions), and when asked her opinion of the “budget repair” bill replied “why are you trying to ruin me?” If candidates like these lose, it will send a serious message to the politicians in Madison.
* Attend a protest at the capitol, the rumor is this Saturday’s will be the biggest one yet. To see 100,000 people of very diverse backgrounds gathered together peacefully is life changing!
* VOTE!
Great stuff, thank you!!
Nice list. I don’t think you can donate to Supreme Court candidates b/c they are using the new public campaign funding system. Volunteering some time to Kloppenburg’s campaign is a great idea, though. Many of the actions of the Walker administration, including Budget Repair Bill (if it were to pass) will end up at the Court so we need to change the balance.
