We’ve dumped gallons of salt brine on streets and it hasn’t been needed til today. Watch out for a snow emergency to be called and make sure you park on the correct side of the street! Downtowners join the rest of the city when a snow emergency is declared.

*** WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY UNTIL 4:00 AM FRIDAY ***
TODAY: CLOUDY AND WINDY WITH SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW. (ACCUMULATION 2 TO 4″)Our 32 salting and sanding crews have been out since around 6:30 am this morning. Salt and salt brine is being applied to our salt routes, which are our main arterials, main connector streets, streets that Madison Metro runs on and streets around schools and hospitals. The weather forecast is calling for snow with around 2″ to 4 ” of snow ending around midnight.
We will continue to salt and plow our salt routes until they are no longer slippery and the snow has been plowed off of them. We will also be sanding the hills, intersections and curves.
Please check back later today to find out if we will be plowing residential streets, when we will begin to plow and if a Snow Emergency will be declared.
Here’s info from the website you need to know
DECLARED SNOW EMERGENCY RULES
- A Declared Snow Emergency is when snow accumulates to 3” or more and all the streets in the downtown Snow Emergency Zone must be plowed.
- When this occurs, people who park in the Snow Emergency Zone must abide by the alternate side parking rules for a minimum of the next two nights.
- A Snow Emergency is declared whenever it becomes necessary to plow ALL residential streets.
- A Snow Emergency will always be declared prior to 9 p.m. if it is to take effect that night.
- If conditions warrant, a Snow Emergency can be extended beyond the 48 hours.
- A Snow Emergency is a City-wide policy.
Please note: During a Snow Emergency, if you violate the Alternate Side Parking rules, the fines are $60, plus a $50 towing fee.
DON’t let the snow lead to a ticket or a tow!
