It’s Madison Housing Week?!

Ever heard of the Madison Housing Coalition?  They’re apparently hosting Madison Housing Week

The groups sponsoring makes me a little queasy, skeptical, cynical, etc . . . the coalition partners are a who’s who o the business community that make money on . . . housing(developers, realtors, etc) plus environmental groups?   I didn’t find anything obvious about the Madison Housing Coalition itself online, but here’s the coalition partners from the Madison Housing Week website.

  • 1000 friends of Wisconsin
  • AARP Wisconsin
  • Capital Area RPC
  • Downtown Madison Inc
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Madison Area Community Land Trust
  • Madison Bikes
  • Madison is for People
  • Realtors Association of South Central WI
  • Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter
  • Smart Growth Greater Madison
  • Strong Towns Madison
  • WHEDA
  • 350 Wisconsin

The events seems designed for the business community with most of them being during daytime hours when most working folks won’t be able to attend.  It looks like some decent events.

And this kinda cracks me up – I’m assuming they threw this together in a rush?  Or its a template stolen from another community?

From the Tenney Lapham Neighborhood Association listserve.

I’m reaching out to let you all know about Madison Housing Week, which starts next week. This is a series of free events meant to educate, entertain, and connect Madisonians to discuss issues and solutions to the housing crisis. The first event features a tour of Tenny-Lapham and the Missing Middle housing that we’re lucky to have! There are a variety of other events covering funding affordable housing, the intertwining of housing and the climate, and even the importance of providing housing for all life stages. A full list of events is below, including links to RSVP. I hope to see some of you there!

Join AARP Wisconsin for Housing On Tap, during Madison’s Housing Week, an evening of trivia and discussion of housing for all life stages. While the event is free, advance registration is required due to capacity limits and catering. Registration includes a round of trivia, food and two drink tickets.
