Contact: Ken GoldenKen Golden announced today that he has decided to withdraw from the race for Mayor of Madison. Golden stated: ” When I announced a few weeks ago I was in good health and capable of mounting a vigorous campaign. Very recently though, a medical condition that I and my physician(s) thought had successfully responded to treatment has, unfortunately, reversed course and will require additional care. The time I will need to have this condition treated will take up too much of the campaign period for me to be able to conduct a winning race. By withdrawing now, I leave time for others who might be interested in running for this office to enter the race.”
Golden then added: “My thanks go to all the friends and supporters who have pledged their time and efforts to my campaign. I know all of us will continue to find ways to contribute to the current campaign and to the civic life of our wonderful community.”
Golden, an 18 year member of the city council who retired in 2007 indicated that when the treatment and recovery from this condition is complete, he intends to remain an actively involved in the political process and in the dialogue about important issues facing the city. He also indicated that he will be returning all contributions received for his Mayor’s run in the near future.
I wish you would run. The good news is that with the new governor the mayor is not going to be able to make our city self destruct into a ticky tacky nouveau noncultural playground at District 2’s expense as well as State Street.
Why don’t women run in this town where the mayor practices unequal hiring practices for city management?
