Long Overdue Round Up

You’re probably wondering why I’m slacking . . . well, I’ve been sick for the last week. If you go to a meeting and hear someone loudly hacking away, that’s probably me. I’m getting better, but it wiped me out for a couple days. And I”m still not 100%. Anyways, here’s what I have.

WHY ARE THE SHERIFF SO TRIGGER HAPPY THIS SUMMER?
I’m finding it pretty creepy that they are so quick to pull their guns. Perhaps its because that is the way this guy is training them?

RADIOS RESOLVED!
I hope. Looks like Madison won’t be paying millions and picking up the costs for others. And hopefully the others now sign on.

COUNTY TAXES GOING UP 9.55%, OR NOT?
This headline is funny, says to expect a huge jump in taxes ($72) and then says that Falk won’t propose it. So I don’t know what to think except the editors blew the headline. (Or maybe it says exactly what they want you to believe.

PLUS $33 FOR MATC BUILDINGS
Wow, MATC wants half of what the county needs to keep our basic services going so they can build some buildings. Seems out of whack.

OVERTURE BUDGET ONE BIG “IF”
Just a couple little hurdles to clear . . .

CAB DRIVERS REAL PROBLEM
The police won’t help them. Not that they are racist. (Read the comments, esp 13 & 15 – Blaska retracts his statement.) So the council passes a screwy law that will likely lead to claims of discrimination because the law isn’t too clear for a problem that is “somewhat rare”.

LABOR (TRADES) FAILING ON DIVERSITY
And it just keeps getting worse.

The Legislative Audit Bureau found DWD has not consistently required local trade committees, which assign apprentices to employers, to update affirmative action plans. Auditors found of the 6,818 apprentices in construction trades in fiscal year 2008-09, 568 were minorities and 136 were women.

DWD has inconsistently enforced an order that requires apprentices to work on state construction and highway projects and noncompliance increased each year between 2006 and 2009, according to the auditors.

The council really should have gotten some labor guarantees on the Edgewater with that kind of a travk record.

FRUIT TREES
Now the details matter. Not for the Edgewater, or when CDA needs to change the law so they can be first in line for $1M, or for the cabbie law that could lead to discrimination . . . but for fruit trees. We have some screwy priorities in this city. Why are people so afraid of nature?

Ok – that’s it for now, hopefully I have time for round two . . .
