I bet you were wondering if I gave up on the Round Up . . . I haven’t, just got distracted. I’ll be better, I promise.
OVERTURE DEAL REACHED
If you’re reading before 10:00, you might find more details here, after 10:00 more details will start to emerge elsewhere.
MADISON SCHOOLS TO CLOSE EARLY ON WEDNESDAYS
Maybe, maybe not. What is wrong with these people, can they agree on this stuff before the do the drama thing?
SCHOOL WEEK AHEAD
Thanks TJ. You might have noted he is also blogging on non-school issues here as well.
BETTER STORM ALERTS
Jesse Russell at Dane101 doesn’t like how it appears on his television. Chris Schmidt last night was overheard inquiring where the 911 Center was because he wanted to give them a piece of his mind. He had figured out what we had figured out by looking at the radar. By the time the sirens went off and the Plan Commission did a recess to go to the basement, the storm and severe weather had passed and was already out by the interstate. You could tell by just looking out the window, the wind had died down and it wasn’t raining sideways. Chris Schmidt says the county sirens went off 14 minutes after the National Weather Service gave the warning. Oh, boy, this doesn’t look good. Watch for more bad weather this morning.
MORE WARNINGS
I wonder if they will get this one on time, or if they’ll send out the notices after the event? Funny, shouldn’t they send the notices out a little earlier to notify people?
STERLING HALL BOMBER DIES
That reminds me, I’m only half way through that book. I stopped reading it because I figured it wasn’t a really good book to bring on the plane, despite how interesting it was.
GET A NEW CATCH PHRASE!!!!!!
Can someone ask Deana Wright to get a new slogan for her morning traffic reports? I’m tired of hearing how we have to slow our roll. Pretty please. She’s still new, but I”m already sick of the phrase.
DRUMMING UP BUSINESS?
Personal Injury attorney looking to get more clients? Being charged with a felony battery seems like a funny way to do it.
NOT CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH FOR MORLINO
Need to import more conservative priests. Um, great idea, that’ll help get more members, I’m sure.
SURE . . . NOW NON-PROFITS ARE BUSINESSES
Ooops, wait, just advocate for business. I guess you get awards when you become a tool for special interests. I wonder, this year at budget time when non-profits are told to do more with less and more people get laid off, will that impact the economy?
MAYOR AND THE GAS PEDAL
The mayor LOVES to spend money on capital projects and we pay for it in the operating budget, forcing cuts because the cost to continue continues to go up with the additional debt. But that’s not what’s bugging me. Sounds like today he is going to ask someone, hopefully the city, to lay off the gas pedal since these are their stats for this year:
1. Over the first five months of 2010, total motor fuel consumption increased slightly over 2009 levels. In all, 5,567 additional gallons were consumed by City agencies, representing an increase of less that one percent (actually, 0.6%, or six tenths of one percent).
I wonder how many bike riders we need to save that many gallons of gas?
GEESE EATING HOMELESS MAN ARRESTED
I guess that is one solution to the geese problem at Warner Park. But seriously, wow, can you imagine being homeless and hitting a goose with a two-by-four and cooking it in a trash barrel to get food?
MORE CITY PUBLIC INFORMATION
Coming this fall? I sure hope so, but I’m guessing this isn’t a top priority and will get bumped as the IT department seems quite busy. I can’t wait to have access to more budget information for the city, information that was largely unavailable even to the alders!
More coming, a few other things I want to make sure happen this morning . . .
