Madison Police Officer Resign Rather Than Face Discipline

Who are they?  Where might they be working now?  Shouldn’t we be able to know without months of delay in open records requests?QUARTERLY REPORTS

This is just out this morning. The Madison Police Department does quarterly reports of officers who were disciplined and then usually has a much longer report of employee recognitions.  The PSIA (Professional Standards and Internal Affairs) quarterly report is here. 3 incidents. And the 121 employee recognitions report is here.  You’re more likely to find non-sworn officers (civilians) in this report than sworn officers.

WHAT DID THE OFFICERS DO?

Hard to tell.  This is the information they provide.

2021PSIA- 0018/0033/0042

For the first case, looks like three incidents.

  • 2/9/21
  • 3/3/21
  • 3/28/21

And four violations – Unlawful conduct being the most curious one.

  • Code of Conduct – Absence from Duty – Suspension 1 day
  • Code of Conduct – Absence from Duty – Resigned
  • Code of Conduct – Unlawful Conduct – Resigned
  • Code of Conduct- Truthfulness – Resigned

The summary is as follows – they never finished the investigation so I guess we’ll never know if they deserved to be fired and if they shouldn’t be hired by another department:

  • Officer had multiple occasions of absence from duty; traffic offense outside county. Officer resigned prior to the issuance of 1 day suspension and prior to completion of other investigations.

WHERE IS THIS OFFICER NOW?

Did they quietly move on and get a job elsewhere?  Where?  Is a “traffic offense” enough to not hire this person again?  Obviously if Matt Kenney can kill two people (not need for links here, right?) and still be employed, I’m guessing that this person can find a new job.

HOW DO WE FIND OUT MORE?

Put in an open records request and wait forever until its such old news no one will care.
