That got your attention 🙂 . . . Ok, seriously, his claims he was only out of town 10, 15 or 18 days since May 1 are preposterous. You should know by now that if I say something that brazen, I’m going to have facts to back me up. Even the council office told the reporter he was out of town 45 days based on emails sent to the clerk and allalders@cityofmadison.com. What they didn’t provide the reporter was this. (Note the classically sloppy staff work by looking at February.) “This” being the internal staff calendars that I requested. According to the records provided, Schumacher was out of town as follows:
July – 3 business days
8, 9, 10 (Wed – Fri)
August – 15 or 16 business days, 6 weekend days
10, 11, 12, 13, 14 (Mon – Fri)
15, 16 (Weekend)
17, 18, 19, 20, 21 (Mon – Fri)
22, 23 (Weekend)
24, 25, 26, 27, 28 (Mon – Fri)
29, 30 (Weekend)
31st? (This may be the one day I’m wrong about, but I don’t know why he’d be absent for the 1st if he was going to be there at 4:30 for CCOC.)
September – 6 business days, 2 weekend days
1 (Tuesday – but back on time for meetings)
24, 25 (Thursday, Friday)
26, 27 (Weekend)
28, 29, 30 (Mon – Wed)
October – 14 business days, 5 weekend days
1, 2 (Thursday, Friday)
3, 4 (Weekend)
5 (Monday)
13, 14, 15, 16 (Tues – Fri)
22, 23 (Thursday, Friday)
24, 25 (Weekend)
26, 27, 28, 29, 30 (Mon – Fri)
31 (weekend)
November – 1 business day, 1 weekend
1 (Weekend)
2 (Monday)
December – 8 business days, 3 weekend days
7 (Weekend)
8, 9, 10 (Mon – Wed)
14 (Weekend)
15, 16, 17, 18, 19 (Mon – Fri)
20 (Weekend)
Add them all up, its 65 if you count August 31st. 64 if I made a bad assumption.
47 (Or 48?) business days.
17 weekend days.
No matter how you add it up, its not 10, 15 or 18.
That doesn’t count any holidays, unless you count Halloween.
He can’t be doing that much business for the League of Municipalities.
And since he says:
“In this age with cell phones and email, I’m always accessible. I conduct aldermanic work no matter where I’m at.”
I emailed him the information yesterday afternoon at three different emails and asked him to explain. Haven’t heard back yet.
I researched the committee info and I listed them in my previous post. If you’d like, I can provide the dates and links to the minutes.
It’s so bad, the council rookies made a song (see page 4) about it for the holiday party.
Unless the council office provided inaccurate information, he was scheduled out of town at least 64 days since July 1. I stand by my word. And I’d love to see facts from Schumacher proving me wrong. Or an apology.
