Thanks so much to Dianne Hesselbein for coming in and talking with me on my show yesterday! I invited all the county board executive candidates to be on my show. 3 of the 6 accepted . . . leaving a significant hole in my schedule yesterday, so Dianne filled in to talk about a wide variety of county issues. (That’s a temporary link, but it will be available here with my other archived shows soon.)

WYOU SHOW UPDATE
Well, the board of WYOU met last night and after the 18th, we can resume the use of the studio and camera check out, so expect to see new shows soon! I also hope to video tape some of the debates, so stay tuned. (channel 95 or 991 or live streamed) So far, it looks like we can manage the place with limited hours with volunteers . . . so if you want to volunteer, let me know! Or . . . if you don’t have time to volunteer, you can donate! With your help, we can make this work!

EDGEWATER PUBLIC ACCESS
I think the WSJ was a little misleading . . . this sentence is kind of kooky, since it is so not true . . .
Those parts of the hotel would be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. 365 days a year, subject to repairs or weather-related closures.
They go on to explain how that sentence is not true, but the damage is done.

COUNTY EXECUTIVE FORUMS
January 16 – Oregon
The first open Dane County Executive seat in 14 years has created a competitive race with six candidates who have all completed the required election papers. Area voters will have the opportunity to hear from candidates for the Dane County Executive seat prior to the February 15th primary. Oregon Area Progressives is hosting a candidate forum on Sunday, January 16 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the Community Room at the State Bank of Cross Plains (Oregon location) at 744 North Main in Oregon. The six candidates – Scott McDonell, Joe Parisi, Joe Wineke, Zach Brandon, Eileen Bruskewitz, and Spencer Zimmerman – have been invited to participate. The top two vote getters in the February 15 Primary Election will be on the ballot in the April 5 General Election.
Candidates will each have an opportunity to make a statement and then answer questions submitted in writing from attendees. Barbara Feeney, a member of the Oregon Area Progressives, will moderate the forum.
We ask that attendees please bring non-perishable food items to the forum or make monetary gifts to benefit the Oregon/Brooklyn Food Pantry.
Oregon Area Progressives is a collaborative group with the goal of organizing support for a progressive policy agenda. Its mission is to encourage discussion and action on local, state, and national issues. The group usually meets at the Firefly Coffeehouse, Oregon, Wisconsin on the third Sunday of the month but has moved the January meeting to the State Bank of Cross Plans location to accommodate a larger group.
January 21 – Stoughton
Coffee and treats with candidates and community members starts at 6:20 PM and the Candidate Forum starts at 7 PM and will last until 9 PM or so.
Location of Event: Downtown Stoughton. The event will be held in the Stoughton city council chambers in the Public Safety Building, 321 S. Fourth St. (Directions: Drive to Stoughton via South Beltline, exit at Stoughton Rd./Hwy 51 south, drive thru McFarland on Hwy. 51 to Stoughton, Hwy. 51 becomes Main St., once you enter the Downtown area you will cross over the Yahara River, proceed to second light after river and turn right on to 4th St. and park in that area. The Public Safety Bldg. is across the street from Library. Enter the Police Dept. door and go upstairs to the council chambers.)
January 27 – Fellowship Hall of the Covenant Presbyterian Church at 326 South Segoe Road in Madison. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. Sponsored by several neighborhoods working with State Journal and Channel 3.

GARBAGE NOT COLLECTED ON MLK DAY
Probably obvious, but just in case . . .
There will be no refuse or recycling collection on Monday January 17th because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Residents who normally have their refuse and recycling collected on Monday will have their material collected on Tuesday January 18th.
On Tuesday January 18th the Streets Division will be collecting refuse from residents in both the Monday and Tuesday refuse collection districts. It is important that residents have their material out by 7:00 a.m.
The Streets Division’s offices and self-help drop off sites will also be closed on the 17th.
The final round of Christmas tree collection will start on Tuesday January 18th. Residents should have their trees out at the curb for collection by 7 a.m. on the 19th to insure collection during this final round.
