Monday Morning Catch Up Round Up

Still catching up. Tomorrow, I’m taking my last “use or lose” day off from work, which I have to use by the end of March and you will see some changes here as I work out a new layout for the blog and try to catch up on a few things I’m behind on and try to let you know about Plan Commission and the School Board meeting.

WHOA
I know this guy, and his dog, from some housing work I have done. I have no doubt it is a service animal. WTF? tasered and pepper sprayed? Tasers on a dude with epilepsy? Seriously?

WIS. COP?
Come on State Journal, it was a Madison Cop who tased a kid at Memorial High School. What kind of a silly headline is that?

FAIL
They said they’d give us sunshine and all we got was a foggy day.

WHEN I WAS ALDER . . .
When something like this happened I’d be attacked for doing nothing for safety and not supporting the police and incidents like this would be my fault. Remember, I was even accused of causing rapes in my neighborhood by one of my opponents. Is it now Maniaci’s fault? Actually, I hope not. I hope some of that ridiculousness has passed.

DANE COUNTY CORONER DIES, AGAIN
Wow, at first when I saw the headlines, I thought that it was just old news getting caught in my google reader or google alerts. Then I realized, it was a current story and another death. My condolences to the family.

EDGEWATER HUMOR
I can’t count the number of people who have started asking me how this project has turned the city upside down and why. To tell you the truth, I don’t know. 100 hotel rooms and a project that many are starting to say won’t get financed is more important than our downtown library? Where are the hours of meetings on the library? Where’s the many blog posts from the Mayor? Where’s the lobbying and cries about jobs? That’s why I enjoyed this cartoon, it kind of sums it up well. Or poorly as it reflects on our city.

EDGEWATER AT PLAN TONIGHT
Kristin Czubkowski does a good summary of what they will be looking at tonight.

BLOGGER DILEMMA
Edgewater or $30M hole in the school budget as presented by the administration. (Less, or at least different view if you look closer.) Tonight will be the first public hearing on the school budget. 6:00 at UW Space Place on Park St. More details and action steps to take to support strong schools, city and kids is here. Show up tonight and Stand Up for Schools! Meanwhile, since I couldn’t find this information anywhere I thought I’d share the current school board budget calendar.
– March 22 – Public hearing. Monday, March 22, 6 p.m. at the UW Space Place in Villager Mall – 2300 S. Park St. (They may vote after public hearing to take some big things, like school closings, off the table.)
– April 1 – Budget book delivered to school board members
– April 5 – Budget workshop
– April 18 – Public hearing at Warner Park. Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 pm at Warner Park Community Recreation Center – 1625 Northport Dr.
– April 26 – Budget workshop
– April 27 – Amendments due
– May 4 – Vote

THAT OTHER BIG PROJECT – THE LIBRARY
Here’s a humorous run down on the library.

LOOKING FOR A BAD GUY
Look in the mirror, dude. You didn’t budget enough money, and if you knew that was a risk, you should have told everyone else and we should have been looking at rehab for that past 8 months.

DISRESPECTED
Satya Rhodes-Conway says the council was disrespected. I think they were lied to. And this just further calls into question the whole budgeting process for the city.

CONGRATS DANE 101
5 years old! That’s awesome. As I learned this weekend, I’m not the only one that wishes we could accomplish the same thing on the political/activist end of things like you have done for art and culture in this find city. Thanks for all you do!

MADISON ECONOMY IN TOP 20 IN THE NATION
Yeah, really. We’re doing much better than others – thanks to the state and university.

WHO WAS THE GOVERNOR LAST WEEKEND?
It’s an interesting question.

A GOOD POINT ABOUT GOOGLE FIBER
Tho, I’m beginning to think that even the people who should be excited about Google Fiber are not. Only a little over 4000 fans on Facebook, really?

COUNTY PARKS POLICIES HEARING

Proposed County Park Ordinance Updates to be Reviewed at Park Commission Meeting
Wednesday March 24, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Lyman Anderson Agricultural and Conservation Center
Conference Room 121A
1 Fen Oak Court, Madison WI 53718

The Dane County Park Commission will review proposed updates to the Dane County Park Ordinances – Chapter 53 of the Dane County Ordinances – and take public input regarding changes to the ordinances. Park Ordinances were last updated over 20 years ago. Park operation and management has changed over time with the development of many new programs including Dog Exercise Areas, Disc Golf, Mt. Biking, expanded Equestrian Trails and Wildlife Areas, to mention a few. The ordinance updates which are being proposed reflect the current operations of the park. The updates are not intended to create new restrictions other than Park Rules that are already being enforced.

To review the updated ordinances, please visit the Park website at
http://www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/default.aspx.
