It’s a 3-day work week for me and I’m beginning to wonder how I’m going to get any work done in June with all the long weekends we have for music festivals and weddings, and Summerfest. Well, I know, I’m taking some work with me! Sigh . . . no worries, I keep up on the blogs, better than I’ve been doing lately.
PRINT FIRST
Sorry, that ain’t going to get me to buy your paper. If it were available on-line, I’d buy it, I just don’t want that huge pile of junk sitting around my house when I”m done. Tho, I’m glad they did the story and portions of it are on-line. As an alder, whenever we dared to ask questions about these types of issues, they told us to stay out of it. This is a matter for the bargaining team and the personnel committee and we were not to get involved, somehow, it just wouldn’t be ethical. I think its time the alders looked into it, but getting any information or cooperation is deadly, not literally, of course. The most I was able to do was nibble around the edges and try to make some small changes.
DUH
I’m sure, for some reason, it sounded like a good idea at the time. But I bet they had a good hang over while they were replanting the tree. Think it will live?
YAY, RIDE THE DRIVE IS OVER!
I feel like a cranky old man yelling at the kids to get off my lawn. I hate this event, only because its trouble for those of us who actually live downtown and want to have a normal day. I couldn’t even watch the Board of Estimates meeting without turning up the volume to an obnoxious level because of the super highway E Mifflin became during the event and the noise it caused with my open windows. The traffic was only backed up a block or two, but the traffic was constant and speedy through my neighborhood and I still never figured out how to navigate the blocked off one-way streets. Especially if you were parked on a blocked off street going the wrong way and couldn’t legally get off the block. I think I’d be less cranky about it if I got it, what’s the big deal about riding your bike on a street. Obviously its very popular and I’m glad everyone has a great time, but I just. don’t. get. it. Ok, I”m done whining.
WEATHER CONFUSION
So there were funnel clouds, no warning issued, but didn’t the tornado sirens go off? I’m pretty sure I heard them.
WELCOME THE BEARS
I feel like I’m in Platteville and its training season . . . but this time the bears are the furry kind. Apparently, they have decided this is home. In case you’re wondering, here’s some tips about how to live with them.
WELL, WELL
Months, try years! They shut down well 3 three years ago . . . yeah, I’d say they have issues.
TIME FOR A THIRD PARTY?
You getting sick of this yet. I am. In fact, I have been, for years.
WHY’S WORZALA BEING SO MEAN?
There has to be a compromise, doesn’t there?
CITY LAGGING BEHIND THE COUNTY IN DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS FOR CONTRACTORS
If the county didn’t have any problems with it, it should be a breeze at the city, right? Right. That’s not how it worked on section 8 and a couple other issues lately.
GREEN CAB
Priuses, bike racks and shared rides, oh my!
EMERALD ASH BORER HOOPLA
Ahem, we did the plan back in 2008, why is it news now? I’m confused. Glad its getting all the attention tho! As a camper, I’ve been aware of it for years, buy your wood where you burn it!
GOIN’ TO THE DOGS
I can’t wait to hear how the city council gets blamed for this ban! I’m sure no one will care that the Taste of Madison Festival folks are asking for the ban so the owners can be ticketed.
CURIOUS OR CONCERNED?
Are fireworks harming the environment? Or you? Or the fish you eat?
GETTING TO THE AIRPORT
$22 to get to Milwaukee by bus, $20 to get to the Madison airport by cab. Hmmmmm.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SAVE HALF A MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD?
Right here in Dane County = $10K.
To be fair, it is only $2 to get to the Dane County Regional Airport by bus–of course, you have to transfer. I just got back from Montreal and they have an incredible express bus from the airport to the City Centre for $7. It makes seven stops and takes about 1/2 to get to the airport from McGill University with luggage racks and everything. Why Metro can’t do that is beyond me: my seven stops: Baldwin and the Avenue, Blair and the Avenue, Wisconsin and Mifflin, State and Dayton, State and Gorham, State and Lake, Lake and Murray, Park and Johnson (substitute Carroll and Main on the return).
The bus was full (30-45 passengers) both times that I took it and I was on off-peak hours.
John
I also heard a tornado siren go off (on the north side) around 2:15 or so.
