Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday Round Up

Yikes! I’m behind! Gotta catch up today . . . Looks a little short, perhaps I was a little too harsh about what made the cut, or maybe everyone was all wrapped up in elections.

ELECTIONS
Round up here.

HUNDREDS? GATHER FOR TEA PARTY
Uh, people traveled throughout the state to get there . . . I think there were more people at the Argus last night.

YAY! MONEY FOR CORPORATE JETS AND PRIVATE AIRCRAFT!
And private hangars to boot! I guess that economy isn’t doing so poorly for some, eh? Oh, wait, we have to do it – say it with me – for economic development! eyeroll. Anyone else sick of those two words yet?

LEINENKUGEL DIDN’T LAST LONG
Anyone surprised? Interesting speculation by Jill.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX YOUR RSS FEED!
Daily Cardinal, you’re on notice. I ignore your RSS feeds cuz I’m tired of reading about things from February or Halloween . . . fix your freaking RSS feed already. There, I feel better. I’m ready to just remove them from google reader.

BROTHER’S BAR MOVES ON
They’re accepting the $2.1M and dropping the lawsuit.

$84M FOR SCHOOL MAINTENANCE
I watched part of this meeting, didn’t finish, but I have to say, read down this article to the “squishy number” part. If I understand this correctly, the numbers are much like the $30M gap – inflated for shock value. The $30M gap is down to $18M. I’m guessing the $84M number drops as well as school board members get their questions answered.

VAN HOLLEN IS RIGHT?
Yikes. I agree, one time money is not the solution. Don’t worry, I’m still highly skeptical he actually needs the $4M slush fund.

AT&T GETTING READY TO SCREW US AGAIN
Sorry, there’s just no delicate way to put that.

RIDE THE DRIVE VS. ORTON PARK FESTIVAL
I’ve been watching this discussion go on . . . I, too, hope they figure something out. I likely won’t bet at Ride the Drive, I went last year, but I don’t get it. I’d much prefer Orton Park, but I hope it doesn’t have to be a choice.

PLAN COMMISSIONERS DON’T UNDERSTAND THEIR JOB
I was talking to Stuart Levitan, another attorney and former plan commissioner and he noted how the Plan Commission REALLY blew it, they didn’t make any “findings”. To us lawyers, that means something specific. From the looks of it, Schumacher has no clue what the Plan Commissioners duties are. He thinks they can just do whatever they want. And apparently, they feel they only need to make findings in denials for the developers. They need some serious training about what their duties are and what the standards mean and why they are important. I fear every time they open their mouths to defend themselves, they dig a deeper hole.

PLEASE STOP BUILDING THE SAME BUILDING
I loved this post! Great pictures to make his point about Madison architecture.

That’s all I have time for this morning. Still some more catching up to do tomorrow.
