Monona Grove School District will be holding three meetings regarding the $1.2 million dollars in reductions that we need to make for the next school year. The cuts are not pretty and only going to get worse as time goes on. I recommend that everyone show up to at least one of them to see exactly how the Scott Walker and Wisconsin republican’s budget cuts have hurt education. Also to all parents in our district you can see how these cuts are going to directly effect YOUR children.
As many of you may know the district is looking at an estimated $1.2 million deficit for
the upcoming school year. The district created a Budget Reduction Committee that
consisted of 12 members, including the Mayor of Monona, Village of Cottage Grove
President, District Superintendent, two Support Staff Personnel, two Teachers, two
Board of Education Members and the Director of Business Services. One of the committee’s
tasks was to create the prioritization tool that would be used to score/rank each
of the proposed budget reduction items. The Budget Reduction Committee met on February 23 and 25 for approximately 16
hours for the purpose of discussing the proposed budget reduction items and score/rank
each of the budget reduction items against the set of objectives and weights
(prioritization tool). This information along with staff surveys, administrative team
scoring/rankings, and consideration statements will be forwarded to the Board of Education.
There will be three public budget hearings, on March 17, 20, and 22. Superintendent
Gerlach will review the results of the Budget Reduction Committee as well as administrative
prioritization results and make a recommendation to the School Board on
March 14. The Board will vote on the recommended reductions at their regular
meeting on March 28 after hearing public input. Please see the district website for more details on the 2012-2013 Budget Reduction
Process. The direct link to access the information is:
