(Most of) County Government Closed Til Friday

They were closed Monday, open today . . . and closed Wednesday and Thursday.

January 29, 2019
To: All Dane County Employees
From: Joe Parisi, Dane County Executive

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning for Dane County that is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday January 29th to 12 p.m. Thursday January 31st . The forecast calls for “Once in a generation” wind chills. Once temperatures have fallen below zero they will likely not rise above zero again until Friday. Tonight through Thursday morning will be the coldest period with lows forecasted to be -20 to -30 below zero. These bitterly cold temperatures will combine with a 10 to 20 mph wind that will produce minimum wind chill values of -35 to -55 below zero. These dangerous wind chills can result in a considerable risk for hypothermia and frostbite in just a few minutes on exposed skin.

Based on these conditions, I am activating the County’s Plan for Suspending County Government operations. Effective Wednesday January 30, 2019 through Thursday January 31, 2019 , all non-essential County services will be suspended. This means that non-essential county services will be closed and non-essential personnel are not required to report to work. We expect that all operations will resume on Friday February 1, 2019.

Non-essential employees who do not report due to this closure will receive normal compensation as if the time had been worked. Supervisors should immediately communicate this decision to employees who do not have access to email.

Best,
Greg

Additional advice . . .

Hi everyone,

Non-essential operations for Dane County Government will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. This includes a number of Dane County services. If you’re unsure if you’re attempting to access a non-essential service, please call ahead first before traveling to a facility, or referring a potential customer. Essential public safety services will remain open during this closure.

For example, some services at the Job Center on Aberg Ave. may be available, but not W-2, EA, Income Maintenance (FoodShare BadgerCare, etc.) or child care. The Capital Consortium Call Center for Income Maintenance (FoodShare, BadgerCare, etc.) will be closed as well.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and hope to be back in business Friday.

Here is the official announcement regarding the closure that went out earlier today: https://www.countyofdane.com/press/details.aspx?id=4433
