National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

Want to help the homeless? Raise awareness and do something practical – that could help save a life this winter.

Please join your neighbors to commemorate the National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, December 21, 2011 – the longest night of the year and the start of winter. The gathering will be at 4pm – intersection of King, E. Main and S. Pickney Streets. The service and vigil will be followed by a walk to Porchlight’s Men’s Drop-In Shelter at Grace Episcopal Church – corner of W. Washington and Carroll Streets just off of the Capitol Square. Offerings for the men at the shelter of new winter survival items such as ski gloves, thermal underwear, hooded sweatshirts, scarves, hats … will be much appreciated. Thank you! Inquiries to Linda Ketcham, Linda@emum.org (608)256-0906

Of course, this is not a favorite event for me, since my father died homeless. But I will be donating some items/money to MUM for their endless wonderful work. It’s easy, you can donate on line here. You can trust your money will be well spent!
