Well, until Nov 1 . . . but for now, this is good news and if the pilot goes well, I hope they can open again in April. Many thanks to First United Methodist Church for making this happen!
Greetings,
Many are aware that we offered to open as overflow for The Salvation Army emergency family shelter at the beginning of September. The process has taken several weeks to secure staffing and logistics. Today, the final steps were completed.
Although, overflow for homeless families was not needed for tonight. The number of families requesting shelter for tonight are able to be served at The Salvation Army location.
If you know of homeless families seeking shelter, please let them know that if they call in tomorrow there will be overflow available. Intake process remains the same. This leaves a few days remaining in October for our space to be utilized for overflow to The Salvation Army because we serve as overflow for Porchlight November 1 thru March 31. We will use this short pilot period to examine the possibilities of our church being available as overflow for families in the spring.
We appreciate you helping us advocate for increased capacity for our homeless children and families. If you are able to show support at the Health and Human Needs Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 27 at 5:45 p.m. at the City County Building (Room 351). It is critical funding be allocated for Salvation Army staffing to offer overflow shelter sorely needed in our community for homeless families.
Peace and blessings,
Karen Andro
