FOR THE TENNEY LAPHAM NEIGHBORHOOD
Spaghetti Dinner/Annual Meeting
Thu, 28-Oct-2010, 6:00 pm

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for TLNAs annual meeting, October 28 at Christ Presbyterian Church from 6-8pm. Adults – $3.00 and Kids under 12 – $1.00.

We are doing the cooking – so you dont need to bring anything but an appetite. After quite a few years, the Church has graciously invited us to return to use their kitchen to prepare meals (and their cool Hobart to wash the dishes). So we will be cooking up spaghetti with and without meat sauce, and providing a fine salad, delicious garlic bread, something fun for dessert, and beverages. Back in the day – wed get anywhere from 75-100 people showing up for our annual meeting – mostly because we were doing the cooking. We hope to feed that many folks again. So please – mark your calendars – and plan to join us for a great neighborhood meal.

DANE COUNTY CHANGING DEMOGRAPHICS

Changing Demographics in Dane County
and Their Effects–Nov. 3 League Meeting

Close to 12 percent of Dane County’s children live in poverty. Almost 50 percent of Madison’s school children are minorities. Close to 30 percent of children in Sun Prairie schools live at or below the poverty line. How do changing demographics in Dane County affect schools and human services?

An expert panel consisting of Daniel Nerad, superintendent of Madison schools; Tim Culver, district administrator of the Sun Prairie School District; and Lynn Green, director of the Dane County Department of Human Services, will discuss the issues surrounding changing demographics at our General Meeting/Forum Wednesday, November 3, at the Capitol Lakes Grand Hall, 333 West Main St, Madison, at 7:00 p.m. For more information, go to our website at www.lwvdanecounty.org or consult the materials being mailed to most League members.

MAYOR’S NEIGHBORHOOD ROUNDTABLE FOCUSES ON DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Join us at the Mayor’s Neighborhood Roundtable on 11/6 …
at the Urban League of Greater Madison, 2222 S. Park Street, 8am to 12:30pm (Registration 8-8:30am)

The Mayor’s Neighborhood Roundtable offers another opportunity for review, discussion and comment on the preliminary Economic Development Committee (EDC) options for City development review. Hear results of Neighborhood Summits I & II and build off of this input to encourage that the EDC report considers neighborhood concerns and interests. There will also be a chance to learn the basics of the City development review process and to learn about the zoning code rewrite project and how both apply to neighborhoods. MG&E and the Department of Planning & Community & Economic Development are sponsors and the event is free of charge. For more information and to register, go to http://www.cityofmadison.com/neighborhoods/. ONLINE REGISTRATION IS OPEN UNTIL THURSDAY NOVEMBER 4 AT 8AM. YOU MAY ALSO REGISTER AT THE EVENT. For further questions, contact Linda Horvath at 267-1131 lhorvath@cityofmadison.com or Ruth Ethington at 267-8727, rethington@cityofmadison.com.

Please send this announcement to your neighborhood listservs, place in newsletters, forward to other individuals that may be interested, and post where appropriate. Thank you!

WORT BLOOD DRIVE AT WILMAR

The Third Annual WORT Blood Drive is only about 3 weeks away, and we still have room for folks to sign-up online. If you are able to donate, and you have not signed-up yet, please go to http://lists.wort-fm.org/cgi-bin/hbd/longsignup and reserve a time slot (this helps us plan out the day, and it helps you get through the line quickly).

We are in a new location, and we have a higher goal this year, so please help out if you can. Thanks.

More information below:

==================
The Third Annual WORT Blood Drive will take place on
Tuesday, November 16th from 1:00-6:00pm at the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, 953 Jenifer Street on Madison’s eastside.

The American Red Cross will be on hand to collect blood donations throughout the afternoon, and WORT will be on hand to give out treats and play great radio.

How can you help? You can sign-up online for an appointment to donate blood at http://lists.wort-fm.org/cgi-bin/hbd/longsignup – or just go to the WORT home page and scroll down to the dancing blood drop.

If you are unable to donate blood, but want to help in other ways, contact WORT’s volunteer coordinator Glenn Mitroff by e-mail at: (please put “blooddrive” in the subject line) or
by phone, during business hours, at (608)256-2001. He will have a complete schedule of volunteer opportunities throughout the day (jobs include hosting at the reception table, refreshment table, etc.).

For more information on the need for blood donations and the donation process, go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood.

If you have other questions about the event, please contact Events Coordinator Maggie Weiser by e-mail at or by phone, during business hours, at (608)256-2001.
