Well, not really . . . but a good notice below about where NOT to park bikes (and cars) while he is in town.
ACCESS TO LIBRARY MALL, THE 700 BLOCK OF STATE ST MALL, AND AREAS NORTH OF LANGDON ST FROM MEMORIAL UNION EAST TO LAKE ST TO BE RESTRICTED TUESDAY 9/28/2010 FROM 11AM – 7PM.
Access to all of Library Mall and the 700 block of State Street Mall will be restricted (by Federal authorities, not UW) on Tuesday September 28, officially from 11am to 7pm, for the President’s visit to campus. Access to parking lot 1 (the lot between Memorial Union and the Red Gym) will also be restricted, as will the whole perimeter around the Pyle Center, Memorial Library, and the State Historical Society. The northern half of the block that includes Humanities and the University Bookstore and everything in between will also be affected.
I will be putting notices on as many bike racks in the area as I can, but there are many bike racks on private property (the Pres House, the Catholic Student Center), and in the city of Madison Right of Way (northern terminus of Fitch Ct), as well as many informal places bicycles lock to (such as street signs and light poles), and I will not likely be able to effectively notice every conceivable location that will be affected.
I suggest that you don’t park a bike anywhere in the area if you want to be able to retrieve it during the day on Tuesday September 28, and please help me to spread the word.
Thanks for your consideration,
chuck
