Parisi Earns Support of Key Local Leaders in County Executive Race
MADISON – Former Dane County Clerk and State Representative Joe Parisi (D-Madison) announced the endorsements of Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell and 22 progressive County Supervisors in his race for Dane County Executive today.
“In the current political environment, we need a County Executive that will fight tooth and nail for Dane County’s interests,” said County Board Chair McDonell. “Joe Parisi has a long record of standing up for our community and I am confident he will continue to do just that as Dane County Executive.”
“As County Executive, I know Joe Parisi will continue to stand up to Governor Scott Walker and Republicans in the legislature who seek to divide our community by slashing millions in funding for vital county human services and attacking workers rights,” said Supervisor Dianne Hesslebein.
Governor Walker’s recent budget proposal would cost the county millions, and has a deep impact on Dane County’s human services. Including a proposed state take-over of the county’s Income Maintenance Program, responsible for providing local assistance to families in need of Food Share, Medicaid, or BadgerCare, which will result in the lay-off of 70 county employees and millions of dollars in lost revenue.
“I am honored to have the trust and support of Chairman McDonell and so many progressive Supervisors, representing communities across Dane County,” said Parisi. “There is no question that our communities and our quality of life are under attack by the Governor Walker Way. As County Executive, I will govern the Dane County way by respecting working families, and working with others to find ways to protect our community in the face of these budget cuts.”
In addition to Chair McDonell, Joe has been endorsed by Superisors Carousel Bayrd, Sharon Corrigan, David de Felice, Patrick Downing, Denise Duranczyk, Analiese Eicher, Chuck Erickson, Melanie Hampton, John Hendrick, Dianne Hesselbein, Brett Hulsey, Jeremy Levin, Al Matano, Patrick Miles, Kyle Richmond, Paul Rusk, Melissa Sargent, Robin Schmidt, Shelia Stubbs, Tom Stoebig, Barbara Vedder, and Matt Veldran.
The support of Dane County Board Chair Scott McDonell and 22 County Board Supervisors is the latest endorsement for Parisi. Joe has also been endorsed by current Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Former Dane County Executive Rick Phelps, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, 2010 Gubernatorial Nominee Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, labor unions including the Dane County Deputies Association, International Painters and Allied Trades Local 802, United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 314, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 159, Democratic Assembly leaders inside and outside of Dane County, women leaders across Dane County, and leading environmental advocates.
