Only took me a half day off of work and about 80 miles on vehicles.
I was really annoyed on this one, I still don’t know why we couldn’t just wait til Saturday, but the city was being a hard ass on this one. Seemed unreasonable. Especially given that the stuff left wasn’t that bad looking.
The pallets the city was in a rush to throw away, one truck showed up to get them, but I had to explain that some volunteers were picking up as many as they could at 5:30 in the evening.
The rest of the property was left cleaner than when we got there.
The only issue was the belongings of one person who is extremely mentally ill and very difficult for our group to deal with, this person isn’t staying with us, but keeps trying and quite frankly, I’m at a loss as to what to do about this person as well. The building inspection unit director, George Hank, knew the person, came and picked them up and stored them at the parks department for this person. Thanks George – we still have way more belongings than this with us at the campground and we can’t be moving it around every two weeks.
Anyways, here’s the email I sent yesterday morning regarding this whole thing.

to om, Mayor, George, Kyle, VangThere are people there now cleaning up the site and dragging all the pallets to the curb. The current plan is to have the pallets picked up tonight – as much as we can before tomorrow morning. Everything else will be in the dumpster or removed. They are even picking up the trash left after the snow.
One tiny problem tho, one of the people who just showed up there has some belongings there, they will be brought to the side of the road and you will find them on public and according to the law, I believe you will need to store them for 90 days. As far as I know, it is not intended to be trash. The belongings are XXXXXXXXX. I will try to contact [this person] today through some other folks, but even if I do, I don’t believe [this person] would have any way to remove the items since [this person] doesn’t have access to a vehicle [this person] is in one of his/her “episodes” at the moment and extremely difficult to deal with. I have no other suggestions about what to do about that. Sorry.
If there is anything else you have concerns about, please let me know so I can pass it along to the group. You should not need contractors to clean up the site tomorrow.
I didn’t get pictures after the pallets were picked up – I know they all weren’t. And the city is going to come pick them up this morning, according to the streets staff I talked to yesterday when they tried to prematurely pick them up. It’s a shame, if they gave us 48 hours more, they would all be recycled instead of thrown in the landfill.
