Progressives Endorse Szarzynski

Oooo, first alder press release in the races . . . at least the first one we have received since the announcements.

Szarzynski Earns Support of local Progressive Leaders

Madison-District 8 Common Council candidate Kyle Szarzynski continues to earn the support of prominent local progressive leaders in Madison with the primary less than a week away.

Among Szarzynski’s endorsers include seventeen current or recently serving elected officials. Among these, include previous student representatives such as Ashok Kumar and Austin King. He also has the support of current alders Brian Solomon, Satya Rhodes-Conway and Marsha Rummel, all of whom lead the Council’s progressive bloc.

Other elected endorsers include Sup. John Hendrick, Vice Chair of the Dane County Board, Arlene Silveira, current representative and former President of the Madison School Board, and Brenda Konkel, former District 2 alder and Common Council President.

“I am very excited about Kyle’s candidacy,” said Rummel. “His background as an activist and connections on campus will make him the ideal candidate to be able to channel student concerns with social justice and other issues into involvement in local political issues. “

Szarzynski has also scored the endorsements of many campus and community leaders, including leading local organizers, heads of campus organizations and top student government officials.

These include Katrina Flores, a founder of the Multicultural Student Coalition, Ben Manski, a former State Assembly candidate, Brandon Johnson, Senior and President of the UW National Pan-Hellenic Council, as well as Peter Rickman, Chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party for the 2nd Congressional District and Vice President of the American Federation of Teachers-Wisconsin.

“As a trade unionist, a progressive, a student activist, and a Democrat, I am excited to support Kyle,” said Rickman. “We need more leaders with progressive values and a vision for what local politics can be. Kyle is that kind of leader and I stand with him in fighting for a more just and equitable future for Madison.”
