Free Flu Vaccine Clinics Begin September 21st
Vaccine Offered by Public Health to Uninsured AdultsOn Wednesday, September 21st and the next 3 Wednesdays, Public Health Madison and Dane County will be conducting flu vaccine clinics for uninsured adults. This service is available by appointment only. Appointments for these clinics can be made by calling (608) 266-4821.

The WYOU Board of Directors has authorized creation of a Wisconsin Uprising Archiving project to preserve video generated in covering the 2011 February and March Wisconsin uprising against the governor’s budget bills.The goal is to collect documentary video footage so as to make it available in one place as well as to preserve it for historical education for future generations.
You do not need to be a WYOU member or a videographer, everybody is welcome.

The City Clerk’s Office will hold Voter ID workshops for the public at different locations around Madison. These presentations will cover the recent changes to state elections law, including requirements for photo identification and poll book signatures, and information on how to obtain an identification card for voting purposes. CITY STILL NOT REIMBURSED FOR COSTS AT THE CAPITOL
From Wednesday:
The Joint Finance Committee met today to consider the reimbursements relating to the security costs during the protests this winter and spring. The committee approved providing the funds for all of the communities whose audit was finished. There were four communities, including Madison, whose audit DOA had not yet finished. As to these communities, the committee authorized DOA to request the money under a passive review process. Under that process DOA needs to submit the request to joint finance, which has 14-days to meet to stop the request. DOA indicated that their audit should be done in the next week two, and that the amount remaining to be audited is very small.

ZONING CODE MAP MEETING FOR 6th DISTRICT

The new Code replaces the existing Zoning Code which was last adopted in a comprehensive manner in the 1960’s. The new Zoning Code will take effect when a new Zoning Map is adopted by the Common Council. The City is preparing a draft Zoning Map which assigns new zoning districts to all properties within the City of Madison. The draft map will be presented for initial public review and comment at a series of open houses in all the aldermanic districts in September and October 2011.

CENTRAL LIBRARY UPDATES AND BOOK SALE
New Central Library Updates
Thanks for your interest in Madison’s new Central Library. We’ll use this list to send out periodic updates about the new Central Library project over the next few years, or check the library’s New Central Library web site for news about the project.
September 13, 2011 – Pre-Bid Meeting for Central Library Construction – New Central Library Construction
In anticipation of the completion of the construction documents, the City of Madison will be hold a pre-bid advertisement meeting regarding construction of the new Madison Central Public Library on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, 1:00-3:30 pm, at the Central Library, Madison Public Library, Room 202, 201 W. Mifflin St.
At the meeting, city staff will provide orientation to the contracting community on the City of Madison Public Works bidding process, present the library project design, provide a tour of the existing building, and answer contractor questions about the project or the City bidding process. Questions about this meeting can be directed to Bryan Cooper, City of Madison Department of Public Works, at 608.261.5533 or bcooper@cityofmadison.com.
The construction of the new Central Library is expected to bid in the fall of 2011. The Central Library will move to temporary quarters at 126 S. Hamilton St. during the construction of the new Library (see press release on 7/27/11). Construction is expected to begin in 2012 and the new library at 201 W. Mifflin St. will reopen in 2013. BUILD BIKES FOR BIG BROTHERS, BIG SISTERS
Humana is giving 30 bicycles to the local Madison Big Brothers Big Sisters program, in honor of Ride the Drive, and the company is looking for 10 to 20 volunteers to help build these bikes on the morning of September 17th.

Christ Presbyterian Church, 944 E. Gorham St. in MadisonTeams of volunteers will work together to build 30 children sized bikes (tools/parts/guidance provided). The bikes will be donated to the local chapter of BIg Brothers Big Sisters. The build will begin at 10am and the bikes will be presented to BBBS at noon.
