CLIMATE CHANGE RALLY ON E WASH TOMORROW
Also from Ledell . . . written yesterday
Climate Change Rally on E Wash – planned for Friday March 15 starting at 11:45 and ending at 2:15
March 13, 2019 9:53 PM
This information was provided this evening by the Madison Police Department representative at the Public Safety Review Committee:
Climate Change Rally
This event is being organized by students from all four Madison Public high Schools, in an effort to call attention to climate issues. This event is part of a nationwide effort for simultaneous demonstrations in state capitols and other major metropolitan areas. Simultaneous events are also being planned in Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Milwaukee.
Organizers are expecting a medium turnout with crowd estimates in the hundreds. East High School (EHS) has been designated as the rally point.
The event is planned for Friday March 15, 2019. Students will rally at East High School at 11 AM, and will then march to the Capitol, commencing at 11:45 AM. Rally commences at 12:45 PM and is scheduled to conclude at 2:15 PM.
The route of the march is most likely to be East Washington Ave to capitol square, then looping around the square to the top of State Street. Organizers have obtained a permit for the use of the Capitol steps on the State St. side for a rally from 1pm – 2pm.
Due to the number of persons involved, it has been determined that for safety reasons the entire three lanes of inbound traffic on E. Washington Avenue may be shut-down to facilitate this march. MPD SET, along with mobile squads and stationary traffic posts will assist. Additionally, a number of EHS staff may be escorting the group. SET Command will meet with student organizers prior to the march.
