A few quickies . . . too busy at work this week . . .
HMMM, THIS BLOG STILL ALIVE?
I was kind of interested in seeing what else might get posted, but its been a couple months.
SANBORN TAKEN TO THE WOODSHED
Wow! What got into the Cap Times? Is this the first they noticed that Sanborn does this? Or is it just the first time it irritated the Mayor enough to blow in their ears?
SOMETIMES I SEE THE BADGER HERALD AS COMEDY
This piece falls in that category. What is funny to me is the misunderstanding on how the council works. Where they got this statement from, I have no idea. “the Council rarely rebukes a recommendation of the CCOC.” If its a close vote on CCOC, almost anything can happen on the council. When the lobbyists could go to work to make their position known, as they may do, then the whole council could get turned upside down. At the council meeting, Schumacher started to get the council votes and convinced them to refer this one more time, this time to ALRC. That two week or longer delay can change alot of votes . . . I expect that if “the industry” really cares, this will get overturned.
OH, THIS IS SO WRONG
Seriously, $95 for a homeless doll? Sigh . . .
IN REAL HOMELESS NEWS
This caught my eye from the Homeless Services Consortium meeting the other day.
Current issues with people presenting to hospitals with flu-like symptoms being discharged to shelters and to Safe Haven. There have been many requests to Public Health for assistance with this issue, but no one from that department has responded. Providers can visit www.flu.gov or the Wisconsin Department of Health Website for information about H1N1 and the seasonal flu. Many people are being turned away from Warming House nightly.
As did this . . .
The Salvation Army: Has had to turn away 30-35 people per night in Warming House.
GREYHOUND
A neighbor of mine sent me this email the other day:
I can’t think of a more inconvenient place to have a Greyhound bus depot than this location. It’s on the other side of the highway across from Farm & Fleet store. Madison Metro does not go down that side of S. Stoughton Road. I went to the Madison Metro site and plugged in my address as a departure and 2023 S. Stoughton Road as a destination and I would have to walk 4/10 of a mile from the closest Madison metro bus stop to get to the Greyhound station. How can the city allow this?
And a listserve I’m on has an email string entitled: “Greyhound excited to miles from nowhere” and they point out the Daily Cardinal coverage and this great quote from Erik Melton.
So, is anyone happy with this decision?
