Round Up, Thursday Oct. 31

Starts with the snowplowing updates, and can only get better from there!

NEWS

In order to keep the news up to date a little bit better, I have a new format for news.  You can look on the homepage under “Konkel Round Up” and I will update that information periodically throughout the day, depending upon what else is going on.

MO’ MEETINGS

Will also be putting Mo’ meetings with the news items.  There were 4 Mo’ Meetings yesterday!  Also, there was an amendment to the council agenda.

CALENDAR

You will now see a calendar on the front page and a tab to the full monthly calendar.  This calendar is for all the government related meetings I find out about that are not in the week ahead.

SNOWPLOWING UPDATES (4:47 AM)

The Streets Division deployed snowplows around midnight in response to the overnight snow storm. Morning commuters must be sure to exercise caution as conditions may be slippery.
The Streets Division dispatched 32 plow trucks to apply salt and plow the salt route network of streets. These are the main thoroughfares of Madison, Madison Metro bus routes, and the roads around schools and hospitals. The salt route network accounts for nearly half of all Madison streets and these are the only streets that receive salt.
Those on the roads Thursday morning are encouraged to make good choices on their commute. When on snow-covered roads, everyone must be slow, patient, and safe. Brake early to allow for extra stopping distance. And allow for extra travel time in order to arrive at your destination safely.
Again, be slow, patient, and alert on all roads in Madison. Even on salt routes, slick spots may develop. Untreated residential streets are likely to be snowy and slippery. Also consider that the previous snow event this week caused many terrace trees to drop their leaves into the roadway. Neighborhood streets that have a thick layer of leaves under the snow can be even more slippery.
As a reminder, the Streets Division does not plow every street in Madison unless three or more inches of snow have accumulated on the roads.
Streets Division staff will continue to monitor the roads throughout the day.

MADISON SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH SURVEY

Message from the School Board:
The Madison School Board is searching for the district’s next superintendent, and needs your help. The board is starting the search process by asking OUR community for input. That input will create a unique leadership profile of what the community is looking for from its next school district leader and will help guide the board through its process.
The board has engaged search consultants, BWP & Associates, who will facilitate the process.
Knowing that input and ideas from our partners and stakeholders are crucial, we invite you to participate in the process by visiting mmsd.org/superintendentsearch to fill out an online survey and to see updates on the process

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

E Johnson St – Underpass Closure & Street Closure
The planned closure of the Yahara River Path Underpass has been delayed. New closure dates have not yet been set. The closure of East Johnson St from Baldwin to First St will still begin at 7am on Oct 31 and lasting until Mon, Nov 4 at approximately 5am.  The closure of E Johnson St will impact the traffic volumes on other streets in the area. The detour route will use N Sherman Ave and E Washington Ave but many drivers may choose other routes. Fordem Ave will be open but posted for local traffic only.  More Information

Southwest Path Closure – Waite Circle Culvert Reconstruction
The Southwest Path is now closed between Midvale Blvd and Parman Terr/Council Crest until approximately January 10. City staff has worked with the contractor to correct the detour arrows and to get the barrels in place along Midvale Blvd to create a protected space for bicycle travel. There will be times when a Metro bus needs to load/unload at the Southwest Path curb cuts as they will not be able to pull to the curb at the usual bus stop location. Please use caution and yield to people exiting the bus.  Project Information
