Subject: Overture CenterAt our most recent meeting, delegates to the South Central Federation of Labor voted unanimously to reiterate our opposition to privatization of any jobs at Overture that are currently being performed by City employees. Since that vote, things have deteriorated even further with the proposal for total privatization plus subsidy. If the city is getting into the business of guaranteed subsidies for private enterprise, please let me know how to apply.
I couldn’t agree more. I now a few non-profits in town that would like a guaranteed payment with escalators and a 5 year contract. Must be nice not to have to compete for the money every two years. This one organization gets 1/3 – 1/2 of what all the Community Services agencies get combined.
