Bonus question: What are your thoughts on the union contracts approved by the County Board last Thursday. note:he contracts were passed a week from last Thursday
While Walker wants to strip worker rights so he can unilaterally fire them, the county is just the opposite. We work with our unions. I believe in respecting worker rights and keeping people at work. That’s why I negotiated these long term contracts that provide stable employment. And it’s saving taxpayers over $1 million a year. As a son of public servants, I understand that our hardworking public employees are an asset. They should be treated fairly, not as a liability.
These agreements reflect respectful bargaining and compromise. There’s always give and take when you bargain in good faith, and I think the contracts now strike the right balance of being fair to those who work so hard for the public while being mindful of the need to pursue efficiencies for taxpayers.
As leader of the County Board it was easy for me to convince other members of the board to keep our workers employed and treat them fairly. What happened at the State Capitol would never be repeated here in Dane County.
