You figure this out . . .
As someone who lives downtown, this is the worst public education I’ve seen. There were no flyers on the cars this year, there were no efforts to communicate with new residents in the area. No education about getting us to park off the street or in the ramps. No text messages. A useless email/press release about plowing. No word about towing. No emails from our alders on our neighborhood listserves. [Uh, they’re probably distracted by something or other.] No communication, until we wake up in the morning and our cars are towed. Now, I’m not going to have that problem, cuz as long as I know what tomorrow’s date is, I should be able to find the right place to park. But what about all my new neighbors, who might not have lived here last year. How are they supposed to know? By reading the city’s website? Even going by past experience, sometimes they don’t call the snow emergency the first night, so how would we know?
The important info for people to know is here.
Don’t forget, you can park in the ramps for free:
Where do you park during a Declared Snow Emergency?
Off street is best. Free parking is available between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the cashiered sections of City-owned parking ramps, and also at some City parks.* When parking in the ramps overnight, do not park on the top level so this area can be plowed.
– Be aware that vehicles stored in city ramps longer than 48 hours are subject to being ticketed and towed.
o Parking in City-Owned Ramps during a Snow Emergency, Parking UtilityMeters in lots and ramps are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
* Parking is also available at Britingham Park Shelter lot off of West Washington Avenue.
* If you must park on the street, you will need to find out where to park. You can:
