If you know someone who has been lost to violence and should be included in the mural, let people know ASAP. Thanks!
Work on the Social Justice Center “PEACE” mural / mosaic / photo project has begun – and we need your help.
If you are a family member or friend of someone with ties to the Marquette – Willy St area who lost their life through violence, we would be honored to include your loved one in the mural & mosaic.
You could also decide to be included in the photo project.
Those who have fallen through violence will be depicted in the mural in happier moments – doing typical activities that anyone in the neighborhood would be doing – skate boarding, playing the guitar, sitting on the porch, et cetera.
We would especially like help reaching family members of those we remember who left us way too early in the 1990’s and 2000’s.
Thank you.

Capital Times article: Since this article appeared, funding was secured from the city of Madison Art Commission BLINK grant program for a series of photos by Terry Talbot depicting family members & friends of those who have fallen through violence – “THE HOPE” which will be exhibited in the front windows of the Social Justice Center.
For more information on the project, please call Sharon Kilfoy at 608-658-3736.
Additional helpful note from Bill Scanlon asking people not to reply on public forums, but “Instead reply to the individual email addresses indicated below” for the sake of privacy:
Organizers know the names of many but not all the persons with connections to our area who have been lost to violence. Also, for persons to be specifically memorialized and celebrated in the Project, organizers need contact information for family member(s) or others who can consent to the person’s specific inclusion and provide information about the person (such as photos, activities, etc.) to allow the artists involved with the project to create a specific remembrance.
So please VERY VERY SOON let Sharon or me know the names of persons you know about who you believe should be specifically included in the Project. Also, if possible, please provide for each of these persons contact information for family member(s) or others who can consent to the person’s specific inclusion and provide information for creation of a specific remembrance.
Also please spread the word to your families and neighbors about the URGENT need for such information to help with the Peace Mural Project.
Sharon can be contacted at sharon at willyart dot net. I can be contacted at wscanlon at gmail dot com. Of course questions are also welcome.
Here’s the progress they made the other day, and the before picture . . . can’t wait to see the completed mosaic and mural!
