Um, I can still blog the easy stuff like this . . . tho, looks like next week I’ll return to blogging more in earnest. Wait! What? No free mulch?! Serious bummer. Serious.
The City of Madison has discontinued its wood mulch program. Free wood mulch is no longer available at park locations.
You can purchase wood mulch at the City’s brush processing center at 121 E. Olin Avenue.
The brush processing center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Closed weekends and City holidays.
Wood Mulch Fee Schedule
Up to 30 gallons: No Charge
31 Gallons to 3 cubic yards (one loader bucket) $10
Each 3 cubic yard loader bucket of mulch $10.
Semi Loads delivered within a 50 mile radius $200Sorry, we no longer make free deliveries of mulch and we only deliver semi loads, nothing smaller.
All material sold as is. All sales final. No refunds or exchanges.

That sucks. So, if you take a day off work you can get free mulch, up to 30 gallons, otherwise not. Did I say that sucks.

Spring Leaf Collection to Begin Monday April 2nd
The City of Madison will begin the annual Spring Leaf Collection on Monday April 2nd. Each neighborhood will receive a minimum of two collections. The spring collection is scheduled to run through Friday April 27th.
There will be no fixed schedule for leaf collection. Streets Division crews will begin collecting leaves in Monday’s refuse collection districts. After completing collection in Monday’s areas, crews will move into Tuesday’s districts, then Wednesday’s districts, followed by the Thursday and then Friday refuse districts. Upon completion of Friday’s refuse districts, crews will begin the cycle again in Monday’s districts.
It is difficult to predict when leaf collection crews will be in a given area due to the uncertainty of workloads. The Streets Division has several options you can use to get the latest information on where our crews are working and when we hope to get to a given area.
You can get our best information by calling 267-2088. This number will provide you with a recorded announcement 24 hours a day. You can get the latest leaf collection update as well as information on brush collection and the yard waste drop off sites.
You can also check our web site, www.cityofmadison.com/streets.
“It is very important that residents not mix their leaves and garden waste with brush,” Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. “Piles of mixed material cannot be collected.”
Brush is considered woody tree and shrub trimmings at least 18” in length. Brush is collected separately on a monthly basis from April through October. Brush collection information is also available by calling 267-2088.
