Lets try this again, this time, without the blizzard. Here’s the items of note. Full schedule here.
Monday, December 14, 2009
8:00 AM MADISON METROPOLITAN SEWERAGE DISTRICT 1610 MOORLAND RD
– First of all, this is a “tentative agenda” how does that work with open meetings laws?
– Second of all, I was going to make a wise crack about them being a handful of unelected people but when I went to see who they were, they weren’t on the city’s list of committees, commissions and boards. Then, come to find out, they are appointed by the County Executive according to the website. So now I’m wondering, why are the listed on the City’s Weekly Schedule instead of the County’s? Is it because it doesn’t serve the whole county? Or because is has the word Madison in it? I’m intrigued.
4:30 PM MADISON ELECTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE ROOM 103 CCB
– Always of interest, they’ll be talking about printing their own ballots in house to prevent not having enough ballots, and a few other things.
4:45 PM LANDMARKS COMMISSION ROOM LL-110 MMB
– Boring after all the Edgwater excitement, but here’s two more . . . say it with me . . . “certificates of appropriateness” that this handful of unelected people will be making decisions on, that will never see the Common Council. Wouldn’t it be fun to see all of these items start going to the Council on a regular basis. We could waste more time for these homeowners by making the process advisory and making them come to a council meeting.
– – 1. 2109 Chamberlain Avenue – University Heights Historic District, Proposal to reconstruct front porch.
– – 2. 218 North Pinckney – Mansion Hill Historic District, Expansion of an existing addition to include both additional living space and a single car garage.
5:00 PM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE ROOM 260 MMB
– Their only agenda item is to create a statement on the Edgewater. I’m sure there will be no surprised. But now, I want to know what they have to say about the fact that there is no Project Labor Agreement (PLA)
5:15 PM MADISON BOARD OF POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSIONERS ROOM 103A CCB
– What the hell is Capt. Joe Balles getting promoted to now?
– And one could ask, why a handful of unelected people get to make that decision and the Common Council doesn’t.
(Hint, Hint: To avoid political patronage and corruption.)
5:30 PM PLAN COMMISSION ROOM 201 CCB
– Informational Presentation by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Regarding the Verona Road Corridor Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement Ok, don’t click on that link, its useless. I thought the draft statement might have been there, it wasn’t, but maybe they’ll add it.
– Goodwill Industries payoff for not building at Truman Olson. You know, every non-profit in town should have submitted a proposal for homeless services for that property, it’s good money. But why isn’t the CDA paying for this? (Note: Staff recommends that the Plan Commission make its recommendation on this matter after it has taken action on the conditional use for 4829 Anniversary Lane – #13 on this agenda).
– The Edgewater! (“To be referred to January 11, 2010 pending a recommendation from the Urban Design Commission” or, so says the agenda.) Currently no meaningful attachments (PUD application or materials) or staff report.
– Bancroft Dairy site – 62 apartments.
– Chickens.
Uh-Oh, what’s this, more items decided by a handful of unelected people. I wonder if the Mayor thinks these decisions should only be advisory and the Council should vote on them as well.
– 11. Consideration of a conditional use and a demolition permit to allow a single-family residence to be razed and a new residence to be constructed on a lakefront lot at 2708 Waunona Way.
(Photo from: AHI #: 115540 Year Taken: 1982 Photographer: WHS HPPH) More photos at the end of this.)
– 12. Consideration of a demolition permit to allow a single-family residence at 5722 Lake Mendota Drive to be razed to create open space for an adjacent
residence under the same ownership. (Not very good photos here.)
– 13. Consideration of a conditional use to allow construction of an 8-unit apartment building at 4829 Anniversary Lane. (see Goodwill Industries item above)

4:30 PM URBAN DESIGN COMMISSION ROOM 260 MMB
– No sign packages this week, but boy, shouldn’t elected officials make those decisions?
– Another high density building in what must be the most dense area of our city, does that make sense? And, should these homes be torn down? Take a peak. See pages 3 – 6. 617 – 619 Mendota Court
– What the hell is this? I don’t think I mind the house going away, but what in the world are they replacing it with? 430 W Dayton.
