KOATS FOR KIDS EASIER TO GET THIS YEAR
Good morning,

CAC is gearing up for the 2012 Koats for Kids! We have two changes this year: 1) We’re holding the Koats for Kids distribution at our Clothing Center for the first time this year and we’ll be distributing coats over 6 weeks instead of a single 4-day stretch. Full details about the coat distribution are on the attached flyer (English & Spanish).

2) In order to help families who are unable to get here to get coats, we’re accepting referrals from social workers, caseworkers, teachers, etc. who are able to pick up coats for the people they serve. Referral forms for this are attached in both Word and PDF files.

Anyone with questions should feel free to contact me or call our front desk – 608-246-4730 ext. 200.

AIDS WALK AND GOOD NEWS!

Hello Everyone,

I am writing to ask you to please pledge to AIDSWalk WI 2012.
I am trying to help raise funds for ARCW and their efforts around HIV/AIDS in Wisconsin.
We are the largest AIDS Service Organization in the country.
WE provide HIV testing and counseling, medical, mental and dental health services, housing assistance and much more.
I have been working the LifePoint needle exchange program out of the Madison office since 1999.
In the last 15 years Wisconsin has seen HIV among injectors drop from 25% of new infections to less than 10% of new infections.
It is simply syringe availability and education to drug users.
This week there was an article in the Capitol Times, where Dane County officials attribute the drop in fatal overdose deaths to the availability of naloxone being distributed by our ARCW LifePoint needle exchange program. I have had more than 110 saves reported this year and 760 over the 5 years we have been doing it. See my name in print!
The Walk is October 6th.
Please help fund our efforts!

DEMONSTRATION TO SUPPORT HOMELESS DAY CENTER
Demonstration for Homeless Day Center
Saturday, Sept. 29th , 12 noon

In late October the Truman-Olson Building at 1402 South Park Street (adjacent to the Copps grocery store) is scheduled for demolition in preparation for the redevelopment of South Park Street. We would like to see this site used for a comprehensive Homeless Day Center which would provide a place for people who are homeless to access services to help them find a job and a place to live. These services are currently scattered throughout the area making them difficult to access.

Demonstrate September 29th at 12 noon in front of the Truman-Olson building, 1402 South Park Street to tell the City of Madison that a Homeless Day Center is needed.

Rides to the Truman-Olson site will leave Veteran’s Plaza at 11:30 a.m. on September 29th.

  1. The MMSD superintendent input session specifically for Latinos is not listed on the district site. I have no objection to doing this, but I would like to know what other groups have been provided with these opportunities and how these decisions were arrived at. I know of no similar efforts to reach out to Progressive and labor.

  2. Just got the full list, labor is there, but Progressive Dane, FAMs, CAST did not get invites….decisions were made in open meetings of the ad hoc committee.
