There are so many reasons my alder makes me a little crazy. Today, there are two things bugging me. One, is forgivable is you chalk it up to nerves and I’m having a little fun with this. The second, is not. Check out my alder’s (Bridget Maniaci) dismal attendance record. h/t to the Forward Lookout spy network for doing the research on this one.
First, my fun . . . seriously, this will take less than 2 minutes and its a little stunning. Wait til you hear what her greatest accomplishment is, compared to Sam’s. And she had time to think about her answer.
Second, not so funny. He attendance record is dismal.
Over her time in office, Maniaci has made it to 57% of the meetings of committees of which she’s a member. This has been slowly declining over time – 59% in 2009, 56% in 2010, and 55% in 2011. Looking at specific committees is more telling. While she has made it to 81% of the meetings for Landmarks and 71% for State Street Design, she’s only been at 41% of the Housing Committee meetings and a dismal 21% of the Ped/Bike/Motor Vehicle Commission.
The person who did this said this about their alder.
1. Absenteeism demonstrates a lack of commitment. If you didn’t go to your job two days out of every week, you’d be fired. If you cut more than two out of every five classes, you’d fail.
2. Almost a quarter of those absences were unexcused – close to half of the ones for housing. That demonstrates a lack of respect for the other people on the committees. The housing committee had to cancel its meetings 12 times in two years due to lack of quorum.
3. Housing is a poverty issue. District 2 is fairly progressive. Maniaci’s regular absence from the Housing Committee demonstrates a lack of concern for social justice.
4. District 2, like all the core downtown districts, is friendly to many different modes of transportation. I’ve noted and appreciated that Sam has ridden your bike everywhere I’ve met you. Maniaci only made it to one out of five of the ped/bike/motor vehicle meetings; that doesn’t indicate a commitment to bicycling.
Needless to say that person is voting for Sam. Here’s the details.
Housing – present 7 (41%), not present 10 of 17 meetings. 12 of these meetings did not have quorum
Landlord & Tenant Issues – present 8 (62%), not present 5 of 13 meetings
Landmarks – present 30 (81%), not present 6 of 37 meetings
Ped/Bike/Motor Vehicle – present 4 (21%), not present 15 of 19 meetings
Sister City Collaboration – present 3 (43%), not present 4 of 7 meetings
State St Design – present 5 (71%), not present 2 of 7 meetings
Devastating. And the nation thought Charlie Sheen’s Detroit debacle was the worst performance of the season…..
