Tiny Round Up

There’s just not much out there today to round up . . . and so much to try to cover tonight!

MISCHIEF VOTERS
Or a republican surge? There were 31,474 Democratic primary votes and 34,474 Republican primary votes in Dane County . . . hmmmm . . . as a member of the Green Party, I didn’t have anything to vote for, but wanted to keep my voting record strong so I had to choose to vote in one of the other primaries . . . so I guess I’m a mischief voter too.

FINALLY, THE PARKING METERS
This cracks me up, the Mayor has already declared them a success and says “because of their popularity” he’s putting more in the budget. If they just started yesterday, how does he know they are popular?

BOB DUNN IS A PLAYER
You think the Edgewater stinks, check out his deal on Red Crown. He’s getting $14M in New Market Tax Credits and what does the public get? 8 new positions and 25 construction jobs, that’s $424,000 per job.

MAYOR AND TRAINS AND MONEY
This is an interesting take on things . . . on high speed rail he says “Virtually all of the costs will be paid for by the federal government through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (the stimulus bill). ” Well, except for the millions we’re paying for parking and planning the area around the stations, including money for a public market, bike station, hotel, redoing the Municipal building etc. etc. And, he’s pushing for the RTA referendum in the spring . . . which seems doubtful because there still isn’t a plan.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TONIGHT
There are meetings galore tonight in the city. What are you doing? Are monkeys your thing, there’s a county board meeting tonight on that. Worried about funding for social services in the city, there’s a public hearing at the Labor Temple tonight. Worried about the “broken” development process, there’s a public hearing on that tonight at Monona Terrace. Want to know more about plans for 113 next year, that meeting is tonight too. Or the CDA will be working on the 2011 work plan and all their projects, the landlord registration lite is at the tenant/landlord committee, LRTPC will be talking about the downtown multimodal station, Public Safety Review Committee will be talking about property left on public property, and Overture meets tonight to hear about costs of maintaining the building.
