Today’s Shitty Housing News

Wait years to get into affordable housing in the City of Madison.

So, imagine that you are disabled and lost your job . . . so you apply for social security, and get denied, and appeal, and get denied and then appeal to get a hearing where you might get social security payments, 3 or 4 years later. So, you have no income, you have food stamps and maybe badgercare, technically you’re not disabled yet, and you need housing, what do you do?

Logical step, public housing right, well, looks like you have to wait for a really long time for that too . . . so what do you do? You don’t want to use your limited shelter days in the good weather – if you’re not banned. Try sleeping in the woods? Until the police or park rangers find you and ask you to move to a new spot? I’m really just getting fucking pissed off at this point . . . check out these waiting lists . . . guess the moral of the story is try to know you’re going to get disabled and lose your job at least a year or two in advance so you can apply to be on the waiting list . . . I guess . . . I think I’ll start investing in crystal balls . . . no wonder so many homeless people drink . . . this “system” is just so damn frustrating . . .

  1. Yep, that’s really shitty.

Lost my job over 2 years ago (hooray nepotism), cannot find another. Live on food stamps and 90 bux a week unemployment.

Even if a miracle happened and I found gainful employment, I don’t think I could rent an apt in Madison again.
