Tuesday Morning Round Up

Here’s what I found of interest for today . . .

EDGEWATER WAITING GAME
We still don’t have a schedule, a current land use application, or a current TIF application, the school board doesn’t have the info they need to discuss it and the numbers, as Lukas points out, are still questionable. A new land use application is supposed to be submitted this week. My guess is we’ll hear all about it . . . on Friday.

EDGEWATER GOING BACK TO LANDMARKS?
Landmarks Commission briefly discussed the Edgwater schedule, I wasn’t there, but I heard that basically they think it should go back to them because it is a new project. Maniaci says that there is still some question about what will and will not be in the PUD and the city attorney is still reviewing if this will or will not be a new application that will come back to Landmarks Commission.

CAPITOL NEIGHBORHOODS HAS A NEW MEMBER!
Part of me wonders what took so long? The other part makes me wonder what they are up to.

Hearing today at the Capital at 1:00 in 412 East.

ISTHMUS PICKING UP BLOGS
The Sconz is taking the leap. I haven’t yet decided, I’m waiting to see how it works on the back end for Jack. And, I’m torn. My sister says that people would love it so there was something to read besides Blaska and it would be a little bigger readership, I think. Its hard to tell with all the page hits and view numbers thrown around. The money is not great, hardly worth it for the tax complications it creates. And, while they say nothing will change, I remain concerned about potential editing and pressure to conform to what they see as appropriate and the potential for my posts to be too plentiful. Meanwhile, yes, Jack, your blog still gives me a raging headache (see example here), I just don’t have the energy to concentrate on it, bigger fish to fry. Opinions are fine, factual errors not so much.

STREET SWEEPING DOWNTOWN
Yes, yes, yes! It clearly needs to be done more than once a year. And if they are going to do it once a year, it should probably be done in the fall, not the spring after the snow melt washes all the fall goop into the lakes. I hope they don’t just do Bassett but Blair to the Capital as well. But no, no towing – just more regular sweeping.

THIS VOTE MADE ME QUEASY
$150,000 job with no job description? Yikes.

THINKING ABOUT A CSA?
Fresh local veggies! Sunday you can find out all you need to know and sign up if you are interested.

CDA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
If there are concerns, I didn’t hear them at Board of Estimates on Monday, I guess this means there should be a Compton Alert! for the council meeting?

MORE NON-ANSWERS FOR THE LIBRARY
As I said, alders are frustrated. And rightfully so if the approach is we’ll update you when we reach an agreement. No need to worry your pretty little heads.

MISSION CREEP
A meeting about snow removal where nearly half the time was spent talking about . . .

The work group also discussed leaf collection, stump removal, brush collection services and staffing the city’s self-help drop off sites. Overall, the plan suggests adding roughly 25 workers, but this does not account for overlap across the facets.

Glad to see a downtown alder made the meeting (Thanks Eagon!), but the focus wasn’t much on the snow removal. As predicted, they need to set up another meeting.

GOOGLE WOES
I continue to be concerned. Really? A non-city sponsored Facebook page is what they think will make this happen? This is such a bummer. Erik Paulson gives his complete thoughts, I particularly like the section on what the city is doing right, and wrong.

I’m still working on this, up til about 10:00, so you might want to check back. Or, um, not.
